چکیده
We use supervisory loan-level data to document that small firms (SMEs) obtain shorter maturity credit lines than large firms, post more collateral, have higher utilization rates, and pay spreads. rationalize these facts as the equilibrium outcome of a trade-off between lender commitment discretion. Using COVID recession, we test prediction SMEs are subject greater Consistent with this hypothesis, did not draw down whereas did, even in response similar demand shocks. PPP recipients reduced non-PPP loan balances, indicating program bolstered their liquidity alleviated shortfall.

Liquidity provision and optimal bank regulation
We extend the set of regulatory instruments for banks’ liquidity provision by adding a policy instrument for controlling the fraction of perfectly-liquid accounts. We demonstrate how this instrument induces self-selection on behalf of depositors who are differentiated according to their probability of facing a liquidity shock. This selfselection leads to a market segmentation, which can break t...

متن کاملCorporate Governance, Firm Size and Liquidity Constraints: A Dynamic Analysis
A rich panel data for a large and representative sample of firms is used to estimate the sensitivity of access to capital to differing ownership structures and firm sizes. The investment behaviour of firms is examined in a dynamic setting in the presence of adjustment costs, liquidity constraints and imperfect competition. The empirical work is based on the derivation of Euler equations in the ...
متن کاملThe Dynamics of Firm Size Distribution*
The shape and evolution of firm size distribution has been studied in industrial organization and labor economics. The standard hypothesis of Gibrat’s law of proportionate effect posits that the rate of firm growth is size-independent. We test Gibrat’s law using a new empirical methodology and considering the underinvestigated Brazilian case. Quantile regression is used to estimate the evolutio...
